Around Manaslu

Start of the Trip: Kathmandu
End of the Trip: Kathmandu
Duration: 18-21 Days
Difficulty: Medium
Hotels: None
Seasons: October – May
Maximum Elevation: 5100m descent

The trek around 8156m Manaslu meaning “Mountain of the Spirit”, the world’s eight – highest mountains, was officially opened to tourists in 1991, but mountaineering expeditions (especially the Japanese) have long had access to the area. This region draws a mixture of trekkers and mountaineers. It’s is not a busy trek by any means, but it is becoming ever more popular for its range of scenery, cultural variety and fledging lodges. This trek also serves as a good alternative to Annapurna Base Camp trek. Permits will be checked at the check posts before entering the restricted areas. The common gateways to this trek are Arughat and Gorkha, which can easily be reached from Besi Sahar. One of the highlights of this trip is the upper Buri Gandaki or Nupri, a major Tibetan settlement village. On this trip you will also have the opportunity to visit Ganesh Himal Base Camp and Tsum Valley, which has been recently opened for tourists from 2008. The majority of the inhabitants of the valley are Tibetans. Some of the must see places here are Piren Phu/ Pigeon cave, Rachen nunnery, Mu monastery, Gumba Lungdang Nunnery, and the villages of Chumling, Chhule, Chhekampar, and Nyile.
