Ganja La

Start of the Trip: Kathmandu
End of the Trip: Kathmandu
Duration: 6 Days
Difficulty: Hard
Hotels: None
Seasons: October- November, March – May
Maximum Elevation: 5106m

The Ganja La trek stands as a test even for the most experienced trekkers. When trekking along this region, you are required to be equipped with proper trekking gears and to have a guide, as it is easy to get lost here. You will be crossing over the Helambu and Langtang region at over an altitude of above 5000m. The pass is usually open from May to early November, and the pass is also often snow covered during winters. A 10-hour bus trip from Kathmandu will bring you to Syabrubesi. To get to Kyanjin you may choose from, several routes. One such alternative is to follow the first three days of Langtang valley route. If you choose the Lantang valley route, you will first begin from Syabrubesi and it would take another 2 days to reach Kyanjin Gompa. Ganja La is flanked by pinnacles of mountaineers call gendarmes and is topped by prayer flags and cairn of rocks. From Ganja La you will be able to see Naya Kangri (5846m) peak, one of the trekking peaks you can climb, given that you have a permit from Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). Tarke Gyang is not necessarily the end destination of this trip, from Tarke Gyang you may choose to trek along the Helambu circuit.
