Makalu (8463m) is world’s fifth highest mountain. Makalu is renowned as one of the toughest mountains to scale. Camping is only permitted in designated areas around the region. On this trek you have the opportunity to enjoy great views of some of the highest peaks in the world such as Barun (7220m), Eastern slopes of Everest range of the Himalayas and the “Throne of the Gods”. You will be starting your trek from Tumlingtar, the nearest town that is accessible by bus from either Kathmandu or Biratnagar. Permit fees needs to be paid at Makalu – Barun National Park. There are several rustic lodges along the route and fooding is very basic. Burning firewood is strictly prohibited around the area, and kerosene is available in Tashigaon.
